Food Stamps - EBT at the City Heights Farmers Market

The City Heights Farmers’ Market was among the first Food Stamp accessible markets in San Diego County and we heavily encourage our patrons to utilize food stamps…or apply for the program if they qualify.

Promoting Food Stamp Use

In order to promote food stamp use at the farmers’ market, we “match” or “top up” every food stamp purchase by $5.  So, if you use your food stamps/EBT at the farmers’ market, we’ll give you five extra dollars to spend that day.  For more on the Fresh Fund program click here.

Eligibility and Pre-screening
Not sure if you qualify for food stamps?  Well, just come down to the market and volunteers with the San Diego Hunger Coalition will let you know if you are eligible via a computer pre-screening tool that takes less than 5 minutes.  If you qualify, they’ll help you fill out and mail in the initial round of paperwork.  This eliminates the first-- often time consuming--step in the process and gets you one step closer to putting more healthy food on your table!

WIC (Women, Infants, Children) And Senior Farmers' Market Promotions Coupons

Every summer, the federal government offers two programs that can help you/your family access more fruits and vegetables.  The WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides a $20 booklet of coupons that can be spent at any certified farmers’ market in the city between May and November.  The coupons are distributed via your WIC office (www.wic-sdsu.org; www.sandiegowic.org) or through Aging and Independent Services.
